Bowling Green Drops Heartbreaker in OT

By March 15, 2013 Game Recaps

Bryan Rust scored at 1:22 in overtime  as Notre Dame defeated Bowling Green 1-0 in game one of a CCHA quarterfinal at Compton Family Ice Arena. The Irish take a 1-0 lead in the best of three series.

It was a battle of goaltenders as Notre Dame’s Steven Summerhays came out on top  recording the shutout with 22 saves. Andrew Hammond was phenomenal in goal, stopping 35 of 36 shots.

Bowling Green had several scoring opportunities early in the game but could not find the back of the net. Brett Mohler hit the post twice with one needing a second look but was waived off after an official review. The Falcons were 0-2 on the power play. The BG penalty kill, with the help of several spectacular glove saves by Hammond stopped three Irish power play opportunities.

Game two will be at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Compton Family Ice Arena. BG must win, or its season is officially over.
