Many of BGSU’s hockey alumni returned to Bowling Green this past weekend for the annual hockey alumni game and golf outing.
On July 12th and 13th Falcon hockey welcomed back its family to Bowling Green for the annual alumni Hockey Old-timers Golf Outing (HOGO). Players, equipment managers, trainers, family, and friends took part in the weekend’s festivities. According to assistant coach Ty Eigner (’93) this year’s outing included members of the teams from five different decades.
The weekend started Friday night as those who came in early took part in the Alumni game. Team Orange took bragging rights in the yearly tilt. Saturday’s festivities began with a late morning luncheon/social hour for all the former teammates to catch up. During this time Coach Bergeron spoke briefly to the alumni about the current state of the program emphasizing the foundation that has been built for future successes as the team moves to the WCHA.
The golf outing was next featuring 18 different team, one of the largest in the last ten years. The team led by Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma (’92) won the scramble with a score of 52 (-20). After golfing the team came back to the Ice Arena for dinner and the post-golf awards. New athletic director Chris Kingston spoke briefly before dinner to introduce himself to the alumni. He spoke of how important BGSU hockey was to the community and pledged to do everything he could to fill the rink for every Falcon home game.
On a personal note from the staff of BGSUHockey.com we would like to thank the coaching staff, the alumni, and all others who were involved with the Outing for allowing us to attend and speak this weekend about our site. We were blown away by the alumni’s donation to our website and will forever be grateful for your gift. We are excited to build BGSUHockey.com to a site that you can be proud of just like this program you have built. As a reminder for any alumni, please do not hesitate to contact any of us for any questions, comments, concerns, or requests.
