Blanked: Falcons Control Play But Fall To Minnesota State In Overtime

Tomas Sholl brought his ‘A’ game, but he didn’t get any help from his offense as the Falcons put up 33 shots, but were unable to get anything on the board. They fell to Minnesota State, 1-0, in overtime Saturday night.

Johnny McInnis scored 1:11 into overtime to earn the Mavericks the weekend split. Freshman goalie Cole Huggins got his second start of the season, spelling all-conference goalie Stephon Williams, and stopped all 33 shots he face.

The Falcons had chances throughout the game. BG panged a shot off the crossbar just 30 seconds into the game. Cam Wojtala had a chance on a rebound late in the third period.

But the story of the game was the goaltending. While Huggins kept BG off the board, Sholl built off his 16-save shutout against Alaska-Anchorage, stopping 24 of 25 shots. He made a number of key saves, including one on a breakaway with 45 second remaining in the third to get the game to overtime.

On the offensive side for the Falcons, Adam Berkle built off his strong Friday performance. He led the Falcons with seven shots on goal.

BG will be back on the road next weekend, taking on Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. for a weekend series. The Bulldogs swept Bemidji State this weekend, and are 4-0 in WCHA play.
