A couple great moments are featured this week, including 1,000 games, Holzinger, and the first top spot in college hockey.

Holzy With a Hatty

1/13/95 — Playing in their 1,000th varsity contest, the Falcons skate away with a 9-3 victory over Ohio State at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum.  The game is BG’s first at the SFC since Jan. 7, 1975.  Brian Holzinger records four points, including a hat trick.

First (of Many) Top Ranking

1/15/79 — BG, 23-3-1, garners its first-ever No. 1 national ranking (WMPL coaches’ poll) after sweeping Western Michigan just days earlier in a home-and-home series.  The Falcons would go on to finish the year ranked second nationally, its highest finish ever.
