Bowling Green, Nell Shut Out Wildcats 5-0

By December 6, 2014 September 26th, 2015 Game Recaps

Bowling Green traveled to Marquette, Michigan and will bring three WCHA points back with them.

Chris Nell started in the crease for the Falcons while Mathias Dahlstrom countered for Northern Michigan.

The Falcons struck first at 17:14 on a good passing play while on the transition. Mark Cooper started the play by skating down the wing. He fed the puck to Dajon Mingo who passed to the slot to Ben Murphy who found twine.

The Falcons got on the board for their second goal in a strange play at 14:16  of the second period. Pierre-Luc Mercier tipped a puck that went straight up in the air. A Wildcat defensemen skated in the way of Mercier to attempt to cut off a chance at a rebound. Mercier met the defenseman with a check who knocked the puck into the net as he fell onto the ice.

Mercier picked up his second goal of the game at 17:32 of the second period. Pierre-Luc was forechecking on the play before the puck went to the neutral zone. The Wildcats turned the puck over and it came to Mercier at the blue line. He skated the short zone and five-holed a wrister past Dahlstrom to push the Falcon lead to 3-0.

Adam Berkle stretched the Falcon’s lead to 4-0 while on a five on three power play. Pierre-Luc Mercier fired an initial shot on Dahlstrom that he saved. Berkle spun around and backhanded the puck into a wide open net.

Ben Murphy capped the Falcon’s scoring at 16:57 as he wristed a laser from the top of the faceoff circle past Dahlstrom.

The Falcons move to 11-3-2 and 8-1-1 in the WCHA on the season. The Wildcats fall to 8-4-2 and 5-4-1 in the WCHA. BG will be off until 1/3/15 when they take part in the Toledo Walleye Winterfest contest against Robert Morris.
