Tommy Burke started in net for the Falcons and stopped 28 of 33 shots. Mathias Dahlstrom countered for Northern Michigan and stopped 37 of 42 attempts.
Northern Michigan struck first at 5:49 of the first period while on the power play. Off the face off, Ryan Trenz moved it to John Siemer. Siemer took a shot that got caught up in a few players in front and Shane Sooth wristed the puck past Burke.
The Falcons tied the game back up at 7:26 as Matt Pohlkamp moved up the far wall and shoveled it to Sean Walker. His shot on goal was tipped in by Ben Greiner who was screening Dalhstrom. The goal was Greiner’s first collegiate marker.
Grenier picked up his second goal of the game at 11:38 as Ben Murphy entered the far side of the Wildcat zone and found an open Greiner who beat Dalhstrom.
Northern Michigan picked up their second goal of the game at 17:45 as Darren Nowick moved up the far wall in the BG zone and threw it to the slot where Gerard Hanson was waiting for the pass, beating Burke.
Matt Pohlkamp set up the Falcon’s third goal of the game when he threw the puck to the net with an initial chance. Dalhstrom tried to jump on it but the loose puck was put home by Dajon Mingo at 1:22.
The resilent Wildcats tied the game again at 5:59 as Brock Maschmeyer put the puck through the crease from the near circle that hit the skate of a BG defenseman and trickled past Tommy Burke.
For Bowling Green’s fourth goal at 8:56 the Falcons entered the Wildcats zone, Brandon Hawkins took a shot that hit the post and bounced back to him. He went to the high slot and turned and beat Dahlstrom who was down on the ice trying to find the puck.
The Falcon’s capped their scoring at 10:48 when Mark Cooper entered the NMU zone and moved it across to Hawkins at the near circle and he beat Dahlstrom. The goal was a power play marker.
Northern Michigan drew back within one at 13:05 when Sami Salmenin entered the Falcons zone, got around a BG defenseman, and made another nice move that beat Tommy Burke.
The Wildcats were able to score the tying goal at 16:39 as Brock Maschmeyer entered the BG zone with speed from his own blue line, went to the high slot and beat Tommy Burke on his low blocker side. The tying goal was at 16:39.
Neither team managed to beat the opposing goalie and the teams skated to a 5-5 tie. They will conclude their series on Saturday at 7:07pm.
