Chris Nell got the call by Chris Bergeron to start his ninth game of the season. Bemidji State countered with Michael Bitzer who has started every game of 2015 for the Beavers.

Kevin Dufour tallied his twelfth goal of the season at 13:11 of the first period. Brandon Hawkins skated down the ice and fed Dufour just outside the Beaver’s zone. The Quebec City native skated between two Bemidji State skaters and backhanded the puck past Bitzer.

Bitter stopped five of six Falcon attempts in the first period. Nell turned aside all five shots he faced by the Beavers.

Pierre-Luc Mercier picked up his fifth goal of the season at 15:06 of the second period. Adam Berkle passed to Mercier from behind the net while Pierre-Luc was sitting in the slot. Mercier let loose a one-timer that beat Bitzer.

Chris Nell continued strong play in the second period where he turned aside all ten shots he faced. Bitzer was able to stop seven of eight Falcon attempts.

Bemidji State scored their first goal of the game at 16:55 of the third period. Gerry Fitzgerald passed across the point to Matt Prappavessis who fired a low slap shot just below Nell’s pads.

Brendan Harms tied the game up with just under a minute left as a rebound from Cory Ward came to his stick and found an empty net.

Chris Nell saved nine of 11 shots he faced in the third while Michael Bitzer stopped all seven shots he faced in the third frame. Being tied at two-apiece the teams went to an overtime period.

Both teams had a series of chances in the overtime period but neither team was able to beat the opposing goaltender one more time.

The Falcons (15-6-5, 11-4-3) will come home to play the Ferris State Bulldogs next weekend. The Beavers (10-12-4, 6-8-4) will hit the road for a series against Michigan Tech.
