Falcons Tally Two in Third to Down Bulldogs 3-2

Tommy Burke made his 14th appearance of the season for Bowling Green and stopped 21 shots on 23 attempts. C.J. Motte took the crease for 28th time this season and stopped 16 shots on 19 attempts.

First Period

The Bulldogs struck first at 13:18 of the first period. Simon Denis fed the puck to Tyler Dorantes who skated onto Burke and backhanded the puck top shelf over Burke’s shoulder.

The Falcons struck back less than a minute and a half later at 14:31 as Ben Murphy showcased his puck handling skills before passing to Dan DeSalvo who wristed a shot past Motte.

Both teams finished with five shots in the first frame with the respective goalies stopping four of those chances.

Todd spoke to Falcon captain Dan DeSalvo after the first period. Here’s what the first period goal scorer had to say:


Second Period

The Bulldogs re-took the lead at 14:03 on a two-on-one rush. The teams were playing four-on-four when Travis White passed across the slot to Tyler Donates who wristed a shot into the net.

The Falcons struggled in the second period, spending nine total minutes in the penalty box. They challenged Motte five times in the second period, scoring on none of their chances. Burke faced 11 shots and stopped ten of them.

Third Period

The Falcons brought the game back to a tie at 5:49 of the third period. Connor Kucera fed the puck to Brandon Hawkins who fired a hard shot onto Motte. The puck rebounded to Ben Murphy who tallied his 10th goal of the game.

Bowling Green took their first lead of the game at 7:09 of the third period. Matt Pohlkamp snapped a quick shot onto Motte from the face-off circle. The rebound found Pierre-Luc Mercier’s stick who had a full net to shoot at. The goal was Mercier’s sixth of the season.

Ferris State made a large push with C.J. Motte pulled at the end of the game, but the Falcons stymied their chances and earned a weekend sweep. Motte stopped seven of nine Falcon attempts in the third. Burke saw seven shots and stopped them all.

With the win the Falcons move to 17-6-5, 13-4-3 on the season. Ferris State falls to 11-17-1, 8-12-0. The teams will play each other again next week, this time in Big Rapids, MI.
