Hawkins ‘progressing’ towards playing against Alabama-Huntsville

Bowling Green forward Brandon Hawkins is “progressing” towards playing this weekend, Falcon coach Chris Bergeron said Tuesday.

The sophomore missed Saturday’s game against Michigan Tech with a lower body injury suffered during Friday’s game.

Hawkins started Tuesday’s practice in a red jersey (no contact), but later was switched to a brown jersey (full contact).

The Falcons still have regular practices Wednesday and Thursday, and a lighter game-day skate Friday.

BG hosts Alabama-Huntsville Friday and Saturday in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Ice Arena. Faceoff both nights is at 7:07.

“I’m optimistic from what I saw today,” Bergeron said.

Hawkins totaled 16 goals and 14 assists in 39 games last season to earn a spot on the All-WCHA rookie team. He led the Falcons in goals and points, and also scored a team-best four power-play goals.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pounder has just two assists in 10 games this season, but has a team-best 31 shots on goal.
