Nell named WCHA defensive player of the week

Bowling Green’s Chris Nell is the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s defensive player of the week, the league announced Monday.

The sophomore goalie stopped 42 of 43 shots in the Falcons’ 4-1, 2-0 sweep at Bemidji State.

He made 28 saves in the shutout.

Nell also helped BG kill off all seven of Bemidji’s power plays in the series.7-1

In WCHA games only, Nell leads the league with a 1.42 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage.

Nell’s played 13 league games, posting a 7-1-4 record.
