Bowling Green’s Mitch McLain was selected the Western Collegiate Hockey Association offensive player of the week, the league announced Monday.

The junior center scored in the second overtime Friday to give the Falcons an extra point in the WCHA standings with a 4-3 decision over Alaska-Anchorage in the Ice Arena. The game officially was a tie under NCAA rules after the teams were tied 3-3 after the first overtime.

McLain had two assists Saturday in the Falcons’ 3-0 victory.

He also skated on BG’s penalty-killing unit, which held UAA scoreless on all 11 of its power-play attempts in the series. McLain had an on-ice rating of +2 in the series where UAA had just 33 shots on goal. He had seven shots on goal in the two games.

McLain is BG’s leading scorer, totaling 17 points in 15 games. He also leads the team with seven goals and 10 assists.
