D’Andrea’s OT winner earns Falcons’ weekend split

Bowling Green, OH – Brett D’Andrea’s overtime wrist shot earned the Falcons a much needed split Saturday. They downed the Alaska Nanooks 2-1.

Chris Nell started in net for the Falcons, making 19 saves on 20 shots faced. Davis Jones got the nod for Alaska and had 29 saves on 31 shots faced.

First Period

The Falcons and Nanooks skated to a scoreless first period, but Alaska carried play en route to winning the shots category 12 to six.

Second Period

Louis Erickson scored the game’s first goal at 9:42 of the second period. He broke out on a two-on-one breakaway and scored on the far side with a wrist shot.

Bowling Green finished the period with 14 shots on Jones while Alaska had five shots on Nell.

Third Period

Kevin Dufour tied the game at 5:46 of the third period. Alec Rauhauser and Sean Walker cycled the puck along the blue line before finding Dufour at the right wing. The senior forward waited for a window and buried a wrist shot high over Jones’ glove for his ninth goal of the season.

The game experienced a lengthy delay for 23 minutes with just under a couple minutes to play, as Stephen Baylis hit Nikilas Koberstein into the glass behind the Nanooks net. The check shattering the plexiglass across the ice and seats.

Neither team was able to find the net in the waning moments and the contest went to an overtime period.

Bowling Green finished the third period with seven shots on net while Alaska had just two opportunities.

Overtime Period

Brett D’Andrea tallied the game winning goal at 4:57. He collected a chipped in puck along the right wing, skated in on Jones, and buried a wrist shot for his seventh goal of the season.

Bowling Green finished the overtime period with four shots on net while Alaska had just once chance.

With the win Bowling Green improves to 13-14-2, 11-10-1-1. Alaska falls to 8-15-3, 7-10-3-3. The Falcons will travel to Ferris State next weekend to continue WCHA action.
