
Bowling Green, OH – The 14th-ranked Falcons were unable to solve the Huskies’ defense Saturday in a 4-0 shutout loss to Michigan Tech. It was the first time the Falcons were shutout this season.
Saturday’s game was Senior Night for Bowling Green as Brett D’Andrea, Mitch McLain, Jakob Reichert, and Tyler Spezia played their final regular season games at the Slater Family Ice Arena. But, it won’t be the seniors’ final games in Bowling Green as the Falcons have clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs.
Ryan Bednard started in net for Bowling Green, making 23 stops on 27 shots faced. Robby Beydoun stopped all 26 shots he faced.
First Period
The Huskies opened the game’s scoring at 12:49 of the first period. Gavin Gould lifted a wrist shot high, beating Bednard over his blocker.
Bowling Green finished the first period with ten shots on net while Michigan Tech had seven shots on net.
Second Period
Jake Lucchini extended the Huskies’ lead to 2-0 at 9:06 of the second period as he re-directed a pass from Gavin Gould from the backdoor.
Michigan Tech picked up their third goal of the game at 14:35 of the middle frame. Mark Auk powered a slap shot past Bednard with the Falcons on a five-minute penalty kill due to a checking from behind penalty on Adam Smith.
The Falcons were badly outshot by the Huskies in the second period by a 13-3 margin.
Third Period
Jake Lucchini capped the game’s scoring at 4-0 with a marker at 14:30 of the third period.
The Falcons finished the third period with 13 shots on net while the Huskies had seven.
With the loss, the Falcons fall to 17-9-6, 14-5-5-2 on the season while the Huskies improve to 14-12-5, 10-9-5-2.
The Falcons will enjoy a week off before heading to Alaska for a pair of games on February 15th and 16th against the Seawolves.
