Bowling Green, OH – The 9th-ranked Falcons power-play draught ended Friday as they beat the Ferris State Bulldogs 2-0.
Justin Kapelmaster stopped 35 of 37 shots faced. Eric Dop stopped all 22 shots he faced, earning his second-straight shutout and third of the season.
Neither team found the net in the opening period of action, despite a pair of power-play chances.
Bowling Green had a 9-7 shot advantage in the first period.
The Falcons finally broke through at 15:35 of the second period with a power-play goal. Brandon Kruse skated across the crease, getting a shot on net. Kapelmaster made the save but left the rebound for Max Johnson who buried his 11th goal of the season. The goal was also assisted by Stephen Baylis.
Bowling Green had 15 shots on net in the second period while Ferris State had nine chances.
Bowling Green added another rebound goal on the power play at 10:29 of the third period. Alec Rauhauser forced a heavy shot on net that was saved by Kapelmaster. Max Johnson’s follow-up shot was also saved by Kapelmaster, but Cam Wright sent a shot that found the net. The goal was Wright’s sixth of the season.
Ferris State pulled Kapelmaster for an extra-attacker with three minutes to play in the game, but couldn’t beat Dop.
The Falcons had 13 shots on net in the final frame while the Bulldogs had six.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 17-6-3, 12-5-2-2. The Bulldogs fall to 6-18-1, 3-13-1-0. The teams will conclude their weekend series Saturday at 7:07 PM.
