#15 Falcons net three in third to upend Huskies 3-2

Bowling Green, OH РThe 15th-ranked Falcons were finally rewarded for carrying play through most of their game Friday. They tallied three unanswered goals in the third period to steal game one of their WCHA Playoffs Quarterfinal matchup with Michigan Tech.

Matt Jurusik stopped 38 of 41 shots for the Huskies, while Ryan Bednard had 23 saves on 25 chances faced for the Falcons.

First Period

Michigan Tech scored the game’s first goal at 6:56 of the first period. Raymond Brice cleaned up a rebound from Tommy Parottino to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

Bowling Green had 12 shots in the game’s opening period, while Michigan Tech had seven chances.

Second Period

The Huskies extended their lead to 2-0 at 18:18 of the middle frame. Greyson Reitmeier’s wrist shot beat Bednard¬†while the Falcons were on the power play.

The Falcons had 19 shots in the middle frame, while Michigan Tech had nine chances on net.

Third Period

The Falcons finally cracked Jurusik with a power-play goal at 11:55 of the third period. Alex Barber passed across the crease to Connor Ford, burying his shot for his 14th goal of the season. Max Johnson had the second assist on the play.

Frederic Letourneau blew the roof off the Madhouse with a tip-in goal at 12:10 of the third period. Adam Smith fired a shot on net from the point, finding Letourneau’s stick to beat Jurusik. Chris Pohlkamp had the secondary assist on the play.

Bowling Green tacked on another power-play goal at 13:41 to take their first lead of the game (3-2). Connor Ford picked up his second point of the night with an assist, feeding the puck across the crease to Max Johnson. His shot found twine for his 15th marker of the season. Brandon Kruse had the second assist on the play.

The Huskies pulled Jurusik for an extra attacker, but were unable to score the equalizer.

The Falcons had ten shots in the final period while the Huskies had nine.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 22-9-5 on the season, while the Huskies fall to 14-18-4.

The teams will continue their best-of-three series Saturday at 7:07 PM. Bowling Green will advance to the semifinals with a win.
