Anchors Away: #17 Falcons flood Lakers 5-0

Bowling Green, OH – Eric Dop didn’t face many shots, but he stopped every one he faced in the #17 Falcons 5-0 win over the Lake Superior Lakers.

Mareks Mitens started in net for the Lakers, stopping 27 of 32 shots faced. Eric Dop countered by stopping all 18 attempts.

First Period

The Falcons opened the game’s scoring at 6:25 of the first period. Will Cullen had pinched in on the play, finding the puck on the doorstop. He fed it across the crease to Max Johnson for a tap-in backhanded goal. Cam Wright assisted on Johnson’s third goal of the season.

Bowling Green extended their lead to 2-0 just 31 seconds later. Sam Craggs picked up his first goal of the season on a rebound from Carson Musser. The Lakers used their timeout immediately after the play to regain their composure.

The Lakers challenged Dop with 10 shots in the opening period while the Falcons directed nine attempts at Mitens.

Second Period

The Falcons pushed their lead to 3-0 at 7:19 of the second period. While skating on the power play Tim Theocharidis wound up, sending a one-timer towards the net. Cam Wright deflected the attempt, beating Mitens for his ninth goal of the season. Taylor Schneider picked up his second assist of the night on the play.

Bowling Green had 15 shots in the middle frame while Lake Superior had just five attempts on net.

Third Period

Connor Ford scored a penalty shot goal at 10:35 to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead.

Evan Dougherty added a power-play goal at 19:20 to seal the 5-0 win for the Falcons. Cam Wright added an assist on the play.

The Falcons had eight shots in the final period while the Lakers struggled with just three attempts.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-4-0, 5-2-0-0 while the Lakers fall to 4-11-0, 2-5-0-0. The teams will conclude their weekend series tomorrow at 7:07 PM.
