Hamden, CT – The 13th-ranked Falcons scored four-straight goals to erase a 2-0 deficit Saturday night, downing #11 Quinnipiac 4-2 for a weekend sweep.

Eric Dop started in net for the Falcons, stopping 28 of 30 shots faced. Keith Petruzzelli turned aside 32 of 35 Falcon attempts.

First Period

Both teams played a scoreless opening period despite power-play opportunities on each end of the ice. It was an evenly matched frame with both teams challenging the goaltender with 10 shots on net.

Second Period

Quinnipiac picked up the game’s first goal at 4:17 of the middle period. Ethan de Jong’s lifted shot sailed over Dop’s shoulder to give the Bobcats their first power-play goal of the weekend.

The Bobcats pushed their lead to 2-0 at 9:36 of the second period. The Falcons coughed up a turnover in the neutral zone to Desi Burgart who skated in, danced around a Falcon defender, and sent a high wrist shot that beat Dop.

Bowling Green cut the Bobcats’ lead to 2-1 at 19:03 of the second period. Will Cullen’s shot from the point was saved, but the rebound came to Gavin Gould’s stick. Gould potted the rebound for his first Bowling Green goal. Connor Ford had the second assist on the power-play goal.

The Falcons outshot the Bobcats 15-8 in the second period.

Third Period

The Falcons scored the game-tying goal at 13:58 of the third period. Cam Wright dug the puck out from the corner, dropping it behind him towards the faceoff circle. Brandon Kruse skated in on the loose puck, blasting a one-timer from the extreme angle. His rocket beat Petruzzelli for his second goal of the weekend and fourth goal of the season.

Bowling Green added another power-play goal at 18:12 to give the Falcons their first lead of the game. Gavin Gould found Connor Ford in the slot who banged a one-timer top shelf for his fourth goal of the season.

An empty-net goal from Tim Theocaridis at 18:31 sealed the Falcons’ sweep over Quinnipiac.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-1-0 on the season. The Bobcats fall to 2-2-0.

Bowling Green will enjoy a holiday break before finishing their home-and-home series with Robert Morris on 12/29 at 3:07 PM.
