
Bemidji, MN – Despite carrying the offensive play for most of the night, Bowling Green was unable to find the net more than once Saturday in a 2-1 loss to Bemidji State.
Freshman Christian Stoever made his collegiate debut, stopping 27 of 29 attempts faced. Gavin Enright turned aside 40 of 41 Falcon attempts for the Beavers.
First Period
Neither team scored in the first period as the Falcons outshot the Beavers 13-11.
Second Period
The stalemate was finally broken at 15:40 of the second period. While skating four-on-four Lukas Sillinger’s one-timer beat Stoever for the game’s first goal.
The Beavers added a goal at 18:53 as Alex Ierullo scored off a stretch pass to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead.
The Falcons outshot the Beavers 9-7 in the middle frame.
Third Period
The Falcons pulled Stoever with just under four minutes to play in the game and Austen Swankler cut the Beavers’ lead to 2-1 with a bouncing shot. The goal was Swankler’s third of the season and the game’s final.
Bowling Green outshot Bemidji State 19-11 in the final period of play.
With the loss the Falcons fall to 3-1-2, 1-1-0 while the Beavers improve to 4-4-0, 3-1-0.
Bowling Green will welcome St. Thomas to the Slater Family Ice Arena next weekend in CCHA action.
