Burke Stops 17 in Third Period to Preserve 3-2 Win Over ‘Nooks

Tommy Burke made his first back-to-back start of the season for the Falcons as Davis Jones made his fifth appearance of the season for the Nanooks. He was replaced by Davis Jones to begin the second period.

First Period

Ben Murphy didn’t wait long to strike pay dirt as he took a Mark Cooper pass, skated into the Alaska zone, and wristed a surgical shot past Jones. Mitchell McLain also assisted on the play.

Matt Pohlkamp picked up his second goal of the weekend at 18:02 as he used the wrister as well to go high on Jones glove side. Kevin Dufour and Pierre-Luc Mercier assisted on the even strength goal.

Burke stopped all 10 shots he faced while Jones stifled seven of nine Falcon attempts.

Second Period

Alaska changed their goalie after the first period and John Keeney took over in net.

Mark Cooper found the net at 1:40 of the second period. Dajon Mingo wristed a shot from near the blueline that Cooper deflected in front of Jones.

Alaska got on the board at 11:51 of the second period. Marcus Basara re-directed a pass across the crease from Tyler Morley for his fourth goal of the season. The Nanooks then scored their second goal just over forty seconds later. Tyler Morley took a Nolan Kaiser feed and got the puck under Burke’s pad.

Burke stopped nine of eleven shots he faced in the second period while John Keeney saved 11 of 13 in his first relief period.

Third Period

The Nanooks thought they had the tying goal at 6:25 of the third period. But Tyler Morley’s stick was above the crossbar and the goal was waved off.

Tommy Burke was brillant in the third period stopping all 17 shots faced and helping ensure the Falcon sweep.

The Falcons move to 7-2-1, 5-1-0 on the year and will head back home next weekend to face-off with inner-state rivals Ohio State.
