Houghton, MI – The 10th-ranked Falcons gave themselves a chance at a win Friday as they took a scoreless tie into the third period. But, two goals allowed in the final frame by Michigan Tech earned a 2-0 win for the Huskies.
Ryan Bednard started in net for the Falcons, stopping 28 of 30 shots faced. Robbie Beydoun stymied all 27 of the Falcons’ chances for Michigan Tech.
Despite a power-play chance for both teams, neither team found the scoreboard in the opening period.
The Falcons had 13 shots in the first period while the Huskies had 12 chances.
It was an identical story in the second period as the scoreboard remained double-zeroes.
Bowling Green had nine shots in the second period while Michigan Tech had eight attempts.
The Huskies finally broke the game’s stalemate at 6:47 of the first period. Gavin Gould finished his own rebound to give Michigan Tech the 1-0 lead.
Justin Misiak extended the Huskies’ lead to 2-0 at 10:13 of the second period. He buried his shot on a loose puck in the crease.
The Falcons pulled Bednard for an extra-attacker with under 2:30 to play in the game. But, the Falcons were unable to find the net in the waning moments of the game.
Michigan Tech doubled-up Bowling Green in shots in the final period, racking up a ten to five advantage.
With the loss, the Falcons fall to 14-5-3, 9-4-2-2 on the season. The Huskies improve to 11-10-2, 10-4-1-1. The teams will conclude their weekend series Saturday at 7:07 PM.
